  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 1/4 cups heavy cream
  • 1 1/2 cups mascarpone cheese
  • 1 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled
  • 1/2 cup coffee liqueur
  • 24 ladyfingers
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder, for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together egg yolks and sugar until pale and fluffy.
  2. Heat the milk in a saucepan, then slowly whisk it into the egg mixture.
  3. Cook the mixture over low heat until it thickens slightly, then remove from heat.
  4. In another bowl, whip the cream until stiff peaks form, then fold in the mascarpone cheese.
  5. Combine the cooled coffee and coffee liqueur in a shallow dish.
  6. Dip each ladyfinger briefly in the coffee mixture and layer them in a serving dish.
  7. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers, then repeat the layers.
  8. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
  9. Before serving, dust with cocoa powder.
